Two films supported by MPS Studios are included in the lineup for this year’s SXSW, held March 8-17 in Austin.

MPS provided camera and grip/lighting/electric departments for the Austin-shot PRINCE AVALANCHE, an unconventional buddy story from Texas-based David Gordon Greene (PINEAPPLE EXPRESS) that premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and is slated for distribution by Magnolia Pictures; and camera and lenses for THE BOUNCEBACK, a raffish romantic comedy set in Austin and written and directed by former Austin Film Society staffer Bryan Poyser.

Other festival offerings shot in Texas or made by Texas filmmakers include A TEACHER, BEFORE MIDNIGHT, BLACK METAL, MUD, PIT STOP, UPSTREAM COLOR and WHEN ANGELS SING. Read more about these films.

Dallas-based filmmaker David Lowery, a longtime client and friend of MPS Studios, said that the prestigious festival celebrates the contributions of Texas filmmaking.

“It’s so valuable for our film community to be seen as an open stage for filmmakers around the world,” said Lowery, who worked on two films screening this year, PIT STOP and UPSTREAM COLOR. “It’s a wonderful time for filmmakers to come together and collaborate.”

“The most valuable outcome I’ve realized from SXSW over the years are the friendships I’ve made, some of which have led to professional collaborations,” he continued. “Some of the best friends I have were friends I met through the festival. I attribute a lot of my success to my participation, and even in the years when I haven’t had films there, it still feels like home to me.”

Besides working on two SXSW films, MPS Studios was also tapped to support a number of projects created during the festival, including several commercials and live concerts.

“Power is always in high demand during an event like SXSW. Our generators have been very busy, alongside our grip trucks, cameras, and lenses,” said MPS vice-president Brad Beasley. “It’s a fun, chaotic time that brings lots of excitement in our Dallas and Austin facilities.”

“It’s also a time to take pride in the accomplishments of the Texas production community, which are showcased in spectacular ways throughout the festival’s venues,” he said. “We’re always proud to play a role in this amazing event.”
