Meet The MPS Crew: Richard Caldwell
Who knew that after leaving our Stage 6 Warehouse in MPS’s own Marc Stephens’ truck – more on that below – that Richard Caldwell would actually end up as the newest addition to our Austin G&E department? While it certainly makes for one of the most interesting ways we’ve ever been introduced to a staffer, we’re glad to have Richard on the team; learn a bit more about him in this week’s edition of “Meet The MPS Crew.”
- How did you get your start with MPS and how long have you been with the company?
I first made contact with MPS while on a run as a PA. The producer called me and asked if I would stop by MPS Grip & Electric warehouse and pick something up; they would have all the details. When I got to Stage 6, I was met by Marc Stephens.
I told him I was there for a pick up from such-and-such production company. He asked, “Are you picking up in that?” pointing to my 4-door Hyundai Accent. “Yes,” I replied. He laughed out loud. He then asked me if I knew what I was picking up. I said, “I have no idea. They said you would have all the info.” He proceeded to walk me over to what I was picking up: two 6K Fresnels with ballasts, lens cases and head cables.
I looked at them, looked at my car, and looked back at Marc. We both laughed out loud. He then loaned me his pickup so I could run the equipment back to set. That was my first introduction to MPS.
Since that time, I have worked sporadically in the warehouse whenever they needed extra help. In September of this year, I started working full time for MPS as a G&E driver at Stage 6.
- When you’re not at MPS, where can we find you? i.e. How do you recharge?
I can usually be found camping and/or hiking in various State and National Parks. If not there, then two-steppin’ with my honey at a honky-tonk.
- What’s your favorite piece of (G&E) equipment to work with?
That would be the new ARRIMAX 18K Fresnel HMI light. It’s so much lighter than the old model.
- If we were to hop onto your music playlist, what would we see you were listening to most recently?
My tastes are varied; everything from Classic Rock to Classical. Lately, I’ve been listening to Iron & Wine and Neko Case a lot.
- If you could have any super power, what would it be and why?
Levitation. Can you imagine how quickly I could load trucks with that super power?
Do you have a G&E need that our Austin crew can help you with? If so, give us a holler at 512-630-1655 or [email protected].
