Doug at the annual MPS Fish Fry in 2015.

Meet Doug Stewart, Camera Car Technician & G&E Repair Manager at MPS Dallas. When he’s not designing, building, or operating the MPS process trailer, he’s hunting, fishing, or serenading his English Pointers.

1. How did you get your start with MPS and how long have you been with the company?
I was hired in April of 1994. Before that I was working for another rental house called Victor Duncan which eventually became Panavision, and then MPS bought out their grip department. So I kind of came full circle.

2. When you’re not at MPS, where can we find you? i.e. How do you recharge?
I’m usually hunting or fishing. I live next to Lake Lewisville so I fish there a lot. Sometimes I go out to the Gulf of Mexico and to different lakes around Texas. When I go hunting I usually go out to west Texas. And I like to cook. I hosted the first MPS Fish Fry fourteen years ago and it just kind of became a yearly tradition. I catch, clean, cook, and basically steward the whole thing.

3. What’s your favorite piece of equipment to work with?
I’d have to say the insert car because I built it, and I know how it works. If you design something, build it from scratch, and then go out and work with it, it’s a lot more gratifying than if you pull it off the shelf or buy it from California. It’s MPS designed, produced, and operated.

4. If we were to hop onto your music playlist, what would we see you were listening to most recently?
Generally when I’m working I listen to classical. Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, that kinda stuff. I also like political talk shows. I like to sing to my dogs– they’re the only ones that can stand it. I steal jingles and theme songs and change the words. They like that. Especially Electric Light Orchestra and the Oscar Meyer Weiner song.

5. If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
The power to disappear. I kind of have that power already though. I can disappear pretty quick. 😉

Does your scene call for a killer camera car and process trailer? Doug will be happy to introduce you to his baby. Give us a call at 214-630-1655 or email us at info@mpsfilm.com.
