MPS Lighting Repair Tech Angel Ovalles having fun with his family.
Meet Angel Ovalles, MPS Lighting Repair Technician in Dallas. In addition to being a master of lighting repair, he’s also a grill master who wishes he had a super powered computer brain. (But Angel, we think you’re pretty darn close already!)
1. How did you get your start with MPS and how long have you been with the company?
I was working at ARRI New York and my wife and I wanted to move to Texas. My wife came down for an interview and I told my manager we were trying to move to Texas. He suggested MPS Studios and not 5 minutes passed and Doug (MPS repair tech at the time) called looking for parts. I told Doug that I might be moving to Dallas and he told me that MPS was interested. My wife got the job, then I came down and interviewed with Jeff and also got the job as the MPS Lighting Technician. We were blessed that everything worked out perfectly. I just completed my second year here and love the work I do and the people I work with.
2. When you’re not at MPS, where can we find you? i.e. How do you recharge?
Grilling out in the backyard with family, friends and some ice cold beer.
3. What’s your favorite piece of equipment to work with?
Any electronic ballast that has a problem or is producing a symptom that I am not familiar with. It’s frustrating at first but I know when I’m done fixing it I’m going to learn something new which is going to make me better.
4. If we were to hop onto your music playlist, what would we see you were listening to most recently?
I listen to everything but mostly hip hop & R&B. Most recently, Bryson Tiller & Alina Baraz.
5. If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
Realistically I would choose the power to quickly learn anything and be able to effortlessly implement what I learned immediately. I would like that power because right now information on any subject is so easily accessible and with that power I would be able to achieve anything I ever wanted. I think having the conventional powers of flight or speed would get me killed or experimented on lol.
Broken ballast? Let Angel fix it for you. Give him a call at 214-640-1918 or visit to see what he can do for you.
